Germany, Luftwaffe. A Western France Air District Distinguished Service Medallion, with Case
(Luftwaffe Feldluftgaukommandos Westfrankreich Erinnerungsmedaille mit Etui). Constructed of bronze, the obverse bearing a raised map of France, overlaid by a Luftwaffe eagle clutching a mobile swastika, topped by an inscription of “ALLES FÜR DEUTSCHLAND” (“EVERYTHING FOR GERMANY”), the reverse bearing a wreathed inscription of “FÜR TREUE DIENSTLEISTUNGEN IM BEREICH DES FELDLUFTGAUKOMMANDOS WESTFRANKREICH” (“FOR FAITHFUL DISTINGUISHED SERVICE IN THE DISTRICT OF WESTERN FRANCE”), unmarked, measuring 41 mm in diameter, accompanied by its period original presentation case, constructed of a light wooden frame with a faux black leather exterior liner, the interior with a white rayon lid liner and intact hinge cover, with a depressed black rayon medal bed, closing with a metal spring catch with exterior stud release, unmarked, measuring 70 mm (w) x 70 mm (l) x 22 mm (h), with minor oxidation visible to the metal and with material fatigue evident to the case which has resulted in the clip no longer locking, in overall very fine condition.
