Germany, Luftwaffe. An Observer’s Badge, with Case, by Wilhelm Deumer
(Beobachterabzeichen mit Etui). Constructed of silvered tombak, the obverse consisting of an oval laurel and oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, overlaid by a swooping Luftwaffe eagle clutching a mobile swastika, the reverse with two visible rivets securing the obverse eagle in place, with a barrel hinge and vertical pinback meeting a round wire catch, maker marked “W. DEUMER, LÜDENSCHEID”, measuring 53.30 mm (w) x 52.42 mm (h), weighing 43.8 grams, accompanied by its original presentation case, constructed of a light wooden frame with faux dark blue leather exterior liner, the lid bearing a gilt inscription of “BEOBACHTER”, the interior with a purple rayon lid liner and intact hinge cover, with a slotted dark blue velvet medal medal bed, closing with a functional metal spring catch with exterior stud release, unmarked, measuring 78 mm (w) x 78 mm (l) x 28 mm (h), demonstrating minor material fatigue throughout the case, in overall near extremely fine condition.
