Germany, Luftwaffe. An Radio Operator and Air Gunner Badge, with Case, by Berg & Nolte
(Fliegerschützenabzeichen für Bordfunker mit Etui). Constructed of silvered and patinated zink, the obverse consisting of an oval laurel and oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by a mobile swastika, overlaid by a swooping Luftwaffe eagle clutching a pair of lightning bolts, the reverse with two visible rivets securing the obverse eagle in place, with a barrel hinge and vertical pinback meeting a round wire catch, maker marked with the logo of Berg & Nolte, Lüdenscheid, measuring 44.02 mm (w) x 52.99 mm (h), weighing 25.6 grams, accompanied by its original presentation case, constructed of a wooden frame with a faux dark blue leather exterior liner, the lid bearing a gilt inscription of “LUFTWAFFEN-FLIEGERSCHÜTZEN-ABZEICHEN”, the interior with a purple rayon lid liner and intact hinge cover, with a slotted dark blue velvet medal bed, closing with a functional metal spring catch with exterior stud release, unmarked, measuring 68 mm (w) x 78 mm (l) x 25 mm (h), a rare example of a late-war zink decoration with a striking galvanized wreath in overall extremely fine condition.
