Germany, NSFK. A Rare Glider Badge
(NSFK Segelfliegerabzeichen). Instituted 26 January 1942 by Friedrich Christiansen. (1942-1945). Constructed of silvered iron with enamels, the obverse consisting of a circular oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by a Nationalsozialistisches Fliegerkorps (National Socialist Flyers Corps/NSFK) insignia, overlaid by three white enameled gulls, the reverse with a raised barrel hinge and flattened vertical pinback meeting a flat wire catch, the reverse bearing an NSFK property mark and award number of “122”, measuring 45.36 mm (w) x 46.40 mm (h), weighing 23.4 grams, loss of silver finish is visible throughout the obverse base metal and the enamels demonstrate some fine cracking and sporadic flecking, a rare badge in near extremely fine condition.
