A Luftwaffe Unqualified Air Gunners Badge by Juncker
Badge in zinc, with dark wreath and silvered eagle (silvering mostly worn off), badge weighs 26.6 grams, unmarked badge, but textbook example by maker C.E. Juncker, Berlin. Unqualified Air Gunners Badge by Juncker is rare. The Juncker Unqualified air gunner was discussed on the Wehrmacht awards forum and shown to have a wartime black finish due to the heat signatures you can see around the hinge and catch- please see this thread;http://www.wehrmacht-awards.com/forums/showthread.php?t=756704&highlight=unqualified Footnote: The Unqualified Air Gunners and Flight Engineers Badge was introduced on April 25, 1944, and was awarded to Luftwaffe personnel acting in capacity of air gunners, and had taken part in at least ten combat operations (or had been wounded in the course of these combat operations). The recipients of these badges had not qualified for the Air Gunners Badge, but were instead replacing air gunners who suffered high rate of casualties in the closing stages of the War.
