(Luftwaffe Fliegerschützenabzeichen für Bordschützen und Bordmechaniker mit Etui). Instituted on 22. 6.1942 (Issued 1942-1945). Two-piece construction of aluminum - the wreath constructed of aluminum with a silver finish while the eagle is patinated, consisting of a thick oval wreath with laurel leaves towards the left side of the wreath, and oak leaves towards the right side of the wreath, with a mobile swastika at the base of the badge, and with an eagle superimposed in the center - manufactured with lightning bolts to be used as a Radio Operator Badge, but modified to be re-issued as an Air Gunner Badge, the reverse plain, with a vertical pinback, a integrated cast hinge, and a crimped round wire catch, marked “A” for “F.W. Assmann” and “DRGM” on the reverse, measuring 43.01 mm (w) x 53.95 mm (h), weighing 12.5 grams. Accompanied by its presentation case of issue, constructed of heavy cardstock, with a blue faux leather (leatherette) exterior, the exterior of the case embossed with “Luftwaffenfliegerschützenabzeichen” in golden lettering, with a lined interior lid, an intact interior fabric hinge cover, a slotted medal bed, a functional spring catch and stud release, and a functional exterior metal hinge, measuring 68 mm (w) x 77 mm (h), in virtually mint condition.
