Germany, Luftwaffe. A Ground Assault Badge, by G.H. Osang
(Erdkampfabzeichen der Luftwaffe). Constructed of silvered and patinated zink, the obverse consisting of an oval oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, topped by a silvered Luftwaffe eagle clutching a mobile swastika, on top of a stylized cloud from which a lightning bolt emanates and strikes the ground, the reverse with a raised barrel hinge and vertical pinback meeting a flat wire catch, maker marked “G.H. OSANG, DRESDEN”, measuring 43.38 mm (w) x 54.68 mm (h), weighing 32.5 grams, a rare example of a Ground Assault Badge with most of its original finish intact, in overall near extremely fine condition.
