Germany, Luftwaffe. A Ground Assault Badge, by Rudolf Karneth
(Erdkampfabzeichen der Luftwaffe). Constructed of silvered zink, the obverse consisting of an oval oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, overlaid by a Luftwaffe eagle clutching a mobile swastika, on top of a cloud from which a lightning bolt is emanating and striking the ground, the reverse with a barrel hinge and banjo-style pinback meeting a flat wire catch, maker marked with the logo of Rudolf Karneth, Gablonz, measuring 43.44 mm (w) x 56.28 mm (h), weighing 31.7 grams, oxidation and loss of finish evident, in overall very fine condition.
