Constructed of gilded and silvered feinzink, the obverse consisting of an oval laurel and oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, overlaid by a silvered swooping Luftwaffe eagle clutching a mobile swastika, the reverse with a barrel hinge and vertical pinback meeting a round wire catch, with two visible rivets securing the obverse eagle in place, unmarked, measuring 64.16 mm (w) x 53.21 mm (h), weighing 44.2 grams, accompanied by its period original presentation case, constructed of a wooden frame with a faux blue leather exterior, the lid with a gold embossed inscription of “LUFTWAFFE FLUGZEUGFÜHRER- U. BEOBACHTER-ABZEICHEN”, the interior with a slotted medal bed, opening with a functional metal spring catch with exterior stud release and a functional metal hinge, unmarked, measuring 80 mm (w) x 80 mm (l) x 25 mm (h), material fatigue evident to both the interior and exterior of the case, in overall extremely fine condition.
