Germany, Luftwaffe. A Pilot’s Badge, by Friedrich Linden
(Flugzeugführerabzeichen). Constructed of silvered tombak, the obverse consisting of an oval laurel and oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, overlaid by a swooping Luftwaffe eagle clutching a mobile swastika, the reverse with a two visible rivets securing the obverse eagle in place, with a narrow block hinge and vertical pinback meeting a round wire catch, unmarked but with the physical characteristics of manufacture by Friedrich Linden, Lüdenscheid, measuring 62.57 mm (w) x 52.58 mm (h), weighing 42.8 grams, with the firm’s characteristic wreath cracks visible to the reverse and with some loss of finish evident, in overall near extremely fine condition.
