Germany, Luftwaffe. A Radio Operator Badge, with Case, by Wilhelm Deumer
(Luftwaffe Bordfunkerabzeichen). Instituted 19 January 1935. (1935-1942 issue). Constructed of silvered tombak, consisting of an oval laurel and oak leaf wreath, with a mobile swastika at the bottom, the obverse with a Luftwaffe eagle clutching dual lightning bolts in its talong, the reverse with a barrel hinge and vertical pinback meeting a round wire catch, with two visible rivets holding the eagle in place, maker marked “W. Deumer, Lüdenscheid”, measuring 40.68 mm (w) x 53.46 mm (h), weighing 32.8 grams, accompanied by its period original case of issue, constructed of card stock with a faux blue leather exterior, the obverse lid with gold embossed inscription of “BORDFUNKERABZ.”, the interior with a padded blue satin-type lid liner and intact hinge cover, with a slotted blue felt medal bed, opening with a functional magnetic metal spring catch with exterior stud release, with a functional magnetic metal hinge, unmarked, measuring 68 mm (w) x 76 mm (l) x 24 mm (h), in extremely fine condition.
