Germany, Luftwaffe. An Observer Badge, by Paul Meybauer
(Beobachterabzeichen). Constructed of silvered feinzink, the obverse consisting of an oval laurel and oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, overlaid by a swooping Luftwaffe eagle clutching a mobile swastika, the reverse with two visible rivets securing the obverse eagle in place, with a raised barrel hinge and vertical pinback meeting a round wire catch, maker marked “P. MEYBAUER, BERLIN”, measuring 52.64 mm (w) x 53.40 mm (h), weighing 38.8 grams, some of the silver finish has been lost, the eagle has loosened from its fittings, and there is evident of catch repair, in overall better than very fine condition.
