Germany. A Luftwaffe Pilot’s Badge by O.M. in its Case of Issue
A textbook example of a fine quality manufacture “Flugzeugführerabzeichen”’ two-piece construction, consisting of a nickel-silver wreath with a matching eagle; the wreath is constructed of laurel leaves towards the left side of the wreath and oak leaves towards the right side of the wreath, separated by three small ribbon-like loops on the bottom, with a large eagle with spread-out wings superimposed on the badge, clutching a swastika in its talons; two rivets on the reverse; vertical needle style pinback, with a barrel hinge and a round wire catch; maker marked “O.M.” on the reverse of the eagle; measuring 52.32 mm x 62.33 mm; weighing 42.6 grams; with light attractive patina on the wreath and eagle from age. Accompanied by its case of issue, constructed of pressed paper, with a textured blue faux leather (leatherette) exterior; lined interior with a slotted medal bed; functional stud release with push button closure; intact fabric hinge cover; intact exterior metal hinge; measuring 81 mm x 74 mm; extremely fine condition.
