A Fine Early Quality Manufacture Cased Luftwaffe Pilot’s Badge by Wilhelm Deumer
A fine early quality textbook example of a “Pilotenabzeichen”; two-piece construction; nickel silver oval wreath with laurel wreaths towards the left side, and oak leaves towards the right side, separated by three small ribbon-like loops on the bottom, with a large patinated eagle with spread-out wings superimposed on the badge, clutching a swastika in its talons; two rivets on the reverse; vertical needle style pinback with a barrel hinge and a round wire catch; measuring 52.96 mm x 66.20 mm; slightly vaulted; maker marked “Wilhelm Deumer, Lüdenscheid.” on the reverse; weighing 43.9 grams. Accompanied by its original case of issue; constructed of heavy pressed paper, with a blue faux leather (leatherette) exterior; the exterior of the lid embossed “Luftwaffen Flugzeugführerabzeichen” in golden lettering; lined interior lid; functional spring catch with stud release; intact interior fabric hinge cover; functional exterior hinge; measuring 80 mm x 75 mm; the case is extremely well preserved, without damage from wear or storage, with the madge equally well preserved with attractive dark patina from age.
