Germany. A Early Luftwaffe Pilot’s Badge, by C. E. Juncker of Berlin in Case
A fine early quality textbook example of a “Flugzeugführerabzeichen”; two-piece construction of nickel-silver; the obverse consisting of an oval wreath with laurel leaves towards the left side side, and oak leaves towards the right side of the wreath, separated by three small ribbon-like loops on the bottom, with a large patinated eagle with spread-out wings superimposed on the badge, clutching a swastika in its talons; two rivets on the reverse; vertical needle style pinback with a barrel hinge and a round wire catch; measuring 64.85 mm (w) x 52.86 mm (h); slightly vaulted; maker marked “C. E. Juncker, Berlin S. W.” on the reverse; weighing 45.2 grams. Accompanied by its matching, early presentation case; constructed of heavy pressed paper, with a black faux leather (leatherette) exterior; with “Flugzeugführer” embossed in golden lettering on the exterior of the case; lined interior lid, with a functional spring catch and stud release, intact interior fabric hinge cover, and a functional exterior metal hinge; measuring 78 mm (w) x 77 mm (h); the badge slightly oxidized from laying untouched in its case since the war; in overall mint condition.
