Of two-piece construction; scarce version constructed of silvered aluminum; the wreath with laurel leaves towards the left side side, and oak leaves towards the right side of the wreath, separated by three small ribbon-like loops on the bottom, with a large patinated aluminum eagle with spread-out wings superimposed on the badge, clutching a swastika in its talons; two rivets on the reverse; vertical needle style pinback with a barrel hinge and a round wire catch; etched “Max Reineck, LF 27.9.38 - Elf. 5.6.40”, and maker marked by the logo of F.W. Assmann on the reverse; measuring 65.28 mm (w) x 53.12 mm (h); weighing 21.5 grams; accompanied by its case of issue; constructed of heavy pressed paper with a dark blue faux leather (leatherette) exterior; the exterior of the lid embossed “Flugzeugführerabz” in golden lettering; the interior of the lid with a lined interior lid, intact interior fabric hinge cover, slotted medal bed, functional spring catch with stud release, and functional exterior metal hinge; measuring 78 mm (w) x 78 mm (h); in overall near extremely fine condition.
