Germany, Luftwaffe. A Pilot’s Badge, with Case, by Friedrich Linden
(Flugzeugführerabzeichen mit Etui). Constructed of silvered tombak, the obverse consisting of an oval laurel and oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, overlaid by a swooping Luftwaffe eagle clutching a mobile swastika, the reverse with two visible rivets securing the obverse eagle in place, with a block hinge and vertical pinback meeting a round wire catch, unmarked but with the physical characteristics of manufacture by Friedrich Linden, Lüdenscheid, measuring 64.70 mm (w) x 53.02 mm (h), weighing 43.3 grams, accompanied by its period original presentation case, constructed of card stock with a faux black leather exterior, the lid bearing a gilt inscription of “LUFTWAFFE FLUGZEUGFÜHRER-ABZEICHEN”, the interior with a blue felt lid liner and slotted blue felt medal bed, opening with a functional metal hinge with exterior stud release and a functional metal hinge, unmarked, measuring 80 mm (w) x 84 mm (l) x 25 mm (h), in overall near extremely fine condition.
