Germany, Luftwaffe. A Cased 1941 Invasion of Crete Commemorative Table Medal
(Unternehmen Merkur Erinnerungsmedaille). Constructed of porcelain, depicts raised central map of Crete, between a fasces and mobile swastika, circumscribed by inscription “EINNAHME VON KRETA, 20. MAI - 1 JUNI 1941” (“SEIZURE OF CRETE, 20th MAY - 1 JUNE 1941”), reverse with central depiction of Fallschirmjäger descending from planes, circumscribed by inscription “SIEG DER FALLSCHIRMJÄGER, LUFTLANDETRUPPEN UND FLIEGER” (“VICTORY OF PARATROOPERS, AIRBORNE TROOPS, AND FLYERS”), unmarked, measuring 50 mm in diameter, accompanied by its period original case of issue, constructed of heavy card stock with a faux black leather exterior, obverse with cloth version of the Luftwaffe Paratroper Badge machine-embroidered onto the lid, interior with a white satin-type lid liner, intact hinge cover, with a recessed blue felt medal bed, functional magnetic metal spring catch with exterior stud release, functional magnetic metal hinge, unmarked, measuring 70 mm (w) x 70 mm (l) x 20 mm (h), in near extremely fine condition.
