Germany, Luftwaffe. A Luftgau II Honour Plaque
(Luftwaffe Ehrenplakette). Constructed of blackened zink, the obverse bearing a central inscription of “FÜR HERVORRAGENDE VERDIENST” (“FOR OUTSTANDING SERVICE”), topped by a raised Luftwaffe eagle clutching a swastika, flanked by a sword, above a raised inscription of “DER KOMMANDIERENDE GENERAL U. BEFEHLSHABER IM LUFTGAU II” (“THE COMMANDING GENERAL AND SUPREME COMMANDER OF LUFTGAU II”), above a raised Posen coat of arms, the reverse with a suspension loop, in addition to age-appropriate material fatigue a crack runs horizontally across the plaque at the mid-section, in overall very fine condition.
