Constructed of silver, the exterior bearing a stamped Fallshirmjäger-style eagle inside of an oval oak leaf wreath, topped by a Wehrmacht-style German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika and above an inscription of “KRETA 1941”, the base with an etched inscription of “FALLSCH. PI. BATL. 7 MAJOR LIEBACH”, with a maker’s mark of the firm of Wilhelm T. Binder, a silver content mark of “835”, a crescent moon and crown, and a serial number of “75756”, measuring 120 mm (w) x 170 mm (h), with tarnishing and a dent to the stem evident, otherwise in better than very fine condition.
Footnote: Major Egon Liebach served with Fallschirm-Pionier-Battaillon 7 and participated in the Battle of Crete, receiving the German Cross in Gold on 14 February 1942. He was later placed in command of Fallschirmjäger-Regiment 6 and participated in combat in Italy and Normandy.
