Germany, Third Reich. A Rare Danzig Cross, II Class with Case, by Hülse
(Danziger Kreuz II. Klasse). Instituted 31 August 1939 by Albert Forster. (1939-1940 issue). A rare Danzig Cross, II Class, constructed of gilded bronze with enamels, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon with a horizontal pinback, consisting of an elongated Cross Pattée, the obverse with gilded and white enameled arms, overlaid by raised gilt crosses and a crown in a Danzig coat of arms motif, the reverse with dual visible rivets securing the obverse features in place, maker marked “B.V.A., HÜLSE-BERLIN”, measuring 35.35 mm (w) x 50.72 mm (h), weighing 17.9 grams (inclusive of ribbon), accompanied by its period original presentation case, constructed of a heavy card stock frame with a faux maroon leather exterior, the exterior lid with a gold embossed Danzig coat of arms, the interior with a white satin lid liner and intact hinge cover, the former bearing a maker’s mark of “JUWELIER HÜLSE, BERLIN, BADEN-BADEN, WIEN”, with a slotted red velvet medal bed, opening with a functional metal spring catch with exterior stud release and a functional metal hinge, measuring 56 mm (w) x 105 mm (l) x 24 mm (h), a rare and complete set of the award in extremely fine condition.
