A Rare & Mint German Eagle Order Merit Medal; 1st Type by Deschler & Sohn of München
A fine cased example of a first type German Eagle Order Merit Medal; a silver medal (marked “900” on the edge of the medal for silver content); the obverse of the medal with an outline of an Order of the German Eagle on the obverse; on loop for suspension, with its period original ribbon featuring a horizontal pinback sewn onto the upper edge of the ribbon; an unmarked example, but displaying typical characteristics of early Deschler & Sohn manufacture; measuring 38.11 mm in diameter; weighing 26.4 grams. Accompanied by its original case of issue; constructed of heavy pressed paper, with a red faux leather (leatherette) exterior, with a large golden national eagle embossed on the exterior of the lid; with a lined interior lid, embossed “Verdienstmedaille” in golden lettering; recessed medal bed; functional spring catch with stud release; severed interior fabric hinge cover; functional exterior metal hinge; measuring 78 mm x 116 mm; in near mint condition.
