A fine quality and early German Eagle order First Class/Deutscher Adlerorden Erste Stufe; 3rd Class out of 9 classes, but formerly known as the 1st class with only the Grand Cross German Eagle with Star and the Grand Cross of the german Eagle in Gold with Star ranking above this example; multi-piece construction; maltesian cross in silver (marked “900” on the bottom arm of the cross) and high quality manufacture thick white enamels; with four national eagles (Hoheitszeichen) separately applied between each of the four arms of the cross; unmarked; measuring 50.72 mm x 50.71 mm; weighing 45.3 grams with its period-original neck ribbon; with a ring for suspension and a soldered-shut clasp for the ribbon; the cross with light contact marks throughout, but absolutely no chipping; the ribbon lightly soiled with field-repaired tie-strings on either ends; a beautiful worn example.
