(Verdienstkreuz I. Stufe des Ordens vom Deutschen Adler mit Schwertern). Issued 1937-1945. Multi-piece construction; consisting of a Maltese cross in silver gilt, with white enameled arms, and with partially enameled national eagles fastened between each of the arms; on a broad loop for suspension - marked “900” for silver content” and “21” for “Grebrüder Godet & Co., Berlin”; measuring 50.40 mm (w) x 50.45 mm (h); weighing 30.3 grams; with its full length period original ribbon; accompanied by its presentation case of issue; constructed of heavy cardstock, with a red faux leather (leatherette) exterior; the exterior of the lid embossed with a golden national eagle; with a lined interior lid, embossed with “Verdienstkreuz I. Stufe des Ordens vom Deutschen Adler mit Schwertern” in golden lettering, with a recessed medal bed, a functional clasp closure, with an intact interior fabric hinge, and a functional exterior metal hinge; measuring 140 mm (w) x 180 mm (h); in better than extremely fine condition.
