This is an exceptionally well-preserved Order of the German Eagle, Grand Cross with Star, featuring a cross with sash and a breast star, the former consisting of a Maltese Cross constructed of silver gilt, with white enameled arms, the quadrants of the arms joined by a gilt NSDAP-style German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika on a white enameled background, with a silver mark of “900” on the 6 o’clock arm, measuring 56.28 mm (w) x 56.76 mm (h), weighing 45.4 grams, on a double loop for suspension from its period original sash, constructed of multi-coloured woven ribbon with a bowtie-style obverse decoration accommodating the cross, accompanied by its breast star, consisting of an eight-pointed radiant silver star, bearing a silver gilt Maltese Cross applique with white enameled arms, the quadrants of the arms joined by a gilt NSDAP-style German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika on a white enameled background, the reverse with a barrel hinge and tapering vertical pinback meeting a flat wire catch, with two rivets holding in place the obverse applique visible, marked “Silber” with a content of “900”, measuring 78.75 mm (w) x 78.32 mm (h), weighing 71.4 grams, including period original case of issue, constructed of wood with a faux red leather exterior, the obverse lid with a gold embossed Reichsadler-style German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, with a gilded border, the interior with a white satin-type lid liner with gold inscription of “GROSSKREUZ DES ORDENS VOM DEUTSCHEN ADLER” (“GRAND CROSS OF THE ORDER OF THE GERMAN EAGLE”), intact hinge cover, depressed and slotted black felt medal bed, opening with stylized dual bronze snap buttons and a functional hinge, unmarked, measuring 203 mm (w) x 295 mm (l) x 47 mm (h), all in extremely fine condition.
