Germany, NSDAP. An Order of the German Eagle, IV Class Breast Star with Swords by Gebrüder Godet, Modified for Postwar Wear
(Verdienstorden vom Deutschen Adler, Kreuz IV. Klasse mit Schwertern). Instituted 1 May 1937. (1943-1945 issue). Constructed of gilded silver with enamels, consisting of a Maltese Cross, the obverse with white enameled arms and bearing a central crossed sword clasp which overlays the three and nine o’clock arms, the reverse with a single visible rivet securing the sword clasp in place, with a barrel hinge and tapering vertical pinback meeting a rounded catch, the pinback stamped with a silver content number of “900” and maker marked with Präsidialkanzlei code “21” for Gebrüder Godet, Berlin, measuring 49.41 mm (w) x 49.19 mm (h), weighing 22.9 grams, the NSDAP eagles formerly joining the quadrants of the arms have been removed in a likely attempt to accommodate postwar wear and some chipping is visible to the enamels, in fair condition.
