Germany, Third Reich. An Order of the German Eagle, I Grade with Swords, by Godet & Co.
(Verdienstkreuz I. Stufe des Ordens vom Deutschen Adler mit Schwertern). Instituted on 1 May 1937 by AH. Issued 1937-1945. A cross of multi-piece construction, consisting of a Maltese cross in silver gilt, with white-enameled arms, with partially enameled national eagles fastened between each of the arms, with crossed swords mounted on the enamel at the centre of the cross, hallmarked “900” for silver content and “21” for Grebrüder Godet & Co., Berlin, measuring 50.54 mm (w) x 59.03 mm (h), weighing 16.8 grams, on a flat suspension loop with its full length period original ribbon, and in mint condition.
