Germany, Third Reich. An Order of the German Eagle, II Class Cross, by Gebrüder Godet & Co.
(Orden vom Deutschen Adler Verdienstkreuz II. Klasse Kreuz). Instituted on 1.5.1937. (Issued 1937-1945). Of multi-piece construction, composed of a Maltese Cross in silver gilt with white enameled arms, along with four German national eagles clutching wreathed mobile swastikas between the arms of the cross, the reverse plain, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, marked on loop with silver content of “900” and code “21” for maker Gebrüder Godet & Co., Berlin, measuring 50.25 mm (w) x 59.85 mm (h) inclusive of loop, weighing 28.9 grams, in extremely fine condition, accompanied by its period original case of issue, constructed of heavy card stock with a faux red leather exterior, obverse lid with gold embossed German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika and bordered by gold trim, interior with white satin-type lid liner transition into an intact hinge cover, with black felt recessed medal bed, functional magnetic metal snap button closing apparatus, functional magnetic metal hinges, measuring 140 mm (w) x 182 mm (l) x 32 mm (h), age-appropriate wear and fatigue evident to the exterior of the case, otherwise in near very fine condition.
