(Verdienstorden vom Deutschen Adler, Verdienstkreuz II. Klasse mit Bruststern und Etui). Instituted 1 May 1937. (1937-1943 issue). A complete and exceptionally well-preserved presentation set of the German Eagle Order, consisting of a II Class Cross, constructed of gilded silver with enamels, consisting of a Maltese Cross with white enameled arms within a gilt frame, the arms joined together through the quadrants by finely-detailed NSDAP-style German national eagles clutching wreathed mobile swastikas on white enameled backgrounds, the twelve o’clock arm with a fan suspension and integral loop connecting to a ribbed ring accommodating an original full-length neck ribbon, the loop marked with a silver content number of “900”, otherwise unmarked but with the physical characteristics of manufacture by Gebrüder Godet, Berlin, measuring 50.58 mm (w) x 58.26 mm (h), weighing 27.8 grams, with minor flecking of enamels evident, in extremely fine condition; a Breast Star, constructed of silver with gilt and enamels, the obverse consisting of a six-pointed ribbed star, overlaid by a central white enameled Maltese Cross with its arms joined together through the quadrants by finely-detailed NSDAP-style German national eagles clutching wreathed mobile swastikas on white enameled backgrounds, the reverse with two visible rivets securing the obverse applique in place, with a raised barrel hinge and vertical pinback meeting a round wire catch, the pinback marked with a silver content number of “900”, otherwise unmarked but with the physical characteristics of manufacture by Gebrüder Godet, Berlin, measuring 65.84 mm (w) x 75.35 mm (h), weighing 42.9 grams, with minor flecking of enamels evident, in extremely fine condition; both concealed within a period original presentation case, constructed of a wooden frame with a faux red leather exterior liner, the lid bearing a gilt embossed German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, the interior with a padded white rayon lid liner and intact hinge cover, the former bearing an inscription of “ORDEN VOM DEUTSCHEN ADLER, VERDIENSTKREUZ MIT STERN”), with a depressed black velvet medal bed, closing with dual functional bronze snap buttons, unmarked, measuring 160 mm (w) x 240 mm (l) x 35 mm (h), with minor exterior fatigue evident, in extremely fine condition.
