Germany, Third Reich. An Order of the German Eagle, II Class with Swords, by Gebrüder Godet
(Verdienstorden vom Deutschen Adler, II Stufe mit Schwertern). Instituted 1 May 1937. (1943-1945 issue). Constructed of silver with enamels, consisting of a Maltese Cross, the obverse with white enameled arms, bearing central silver crossed swords, the quadrants of the cross joined by silver NSDAP-style German national eagles clutching wreathed mobile swastika on white enameled backgrounds, the reverse with a barrel hinge and tapering vertical pinback meeting a round wire catch, the pinback bearing a silver content mark of “900” and maker code “21” for Gebrüder Godet & Co., Berlin, measuring 49.81 mm (w) x 49.35 mm (h), weighing 32.0 grams, accompanied by its period original case of issue, constructed of card stock with a faux red leather exterior, the obverse lid with a gold embossed NSDAP-style German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, with a gold embossed border, the interior with a padded white satin-type lid liner bearing a gold inscription of “Deutscher Adlerorden II. Stufe mit Schwertern” (“German Order Order II. Class with Swords”), with an intact hinge cover, slotted and depressed black doeskin wool medal bed, opening with a functional magnetic metal snap button, with a functional magnetic metal hinge, unmarked, measuring 105 mm (w) x 105 mm (l) x 24 mm (h), in near extremely fine condition.
