Germany, Third Reich. An Order of the German Eagle, IV Class Cross with Swords and Case, by Gebrüder Godet
(Verdienstorden vom Deutschen Adler Verdienstkreuz, Kreuz II. Klasse mit Schwertern und Etui). Instituted 1 May 1937. (1943-1945 issue). Constructed of gilded silver with enamels, consisting of a Maltese Cross, the obverse with white enameled arms joined together through the quadrants by gilded NSDAP-style German national eagles clutching wreathed mobile swastikas on a white enameled discs, overlaid across the three and nine o’clock arms with a crossed sword clasp, the reverse with a central visible rivet securing the swords in place, with a raised and elongated barrel hinge and narrow tapering pinback meeting a rounded catch, the pinback maker marked with Präsidialkanzlei code “21” for Gebrüder Godet, Berlin, alongside a silver content number of “900”, measuring 49.53 mm (w) x 49.62 mm (h), weighing 32.2 grams, accompanied by its original presentation case, constructed of a wooden frame with a faux red leather exterior liner, the lid bearing an embossed and gilded NSDAP-style German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, situated within a border of identical construction, the interior with a padded white satin lid liner and intact hinge cover, the former bearing a gilt inscription of “DEUTSCHER ADLERORDEN II. STUFE MIT SCHWERTERN”, with a depressed and slotted black velvet medal bed, closing with a functional bronzed magnetic metal snap button, unmarked, measuring 105 nm (w) x 108 mm (l) x 24 mm (h), with minor flecking and a consisting patina visible to the enamels and base metal of the decoration, respectively, a high-quality and complete set in extremely fine condition.
