Germany, Third Reich. An Order of the German Eagle, IV Class with Swords, by Gebrüder Godet & Co.
(Orden vom Deutschen Adler, Verdienstkreuz IV. Stufe mit Schwertern). Instituted 1 May 1937. (1943-1945 issue). Constructed of gilded silver with enamels, consisting of a Maltese Cross, the obverse with white enameled arms, the quadrants of the cross joined by finely-detailed gilt German national eagle clutching wreathed mobile swastikas on white enameled background, with gilt crossed swords adorning the centre of the cross, the reverse with a barrel hinge and tapering vertical pinback meeting a round wire catch, the pinback maker marked with code “21” for Gebrüder Godet & Co., Berlin, with a silver content mark of “900”, measuring 49.21 mm (w) x 49.69 mm (h), weighing 29.8 grams, minor flecking of the enamels is evident along with a horizontal crack on the twelve o’clock arm, otherwise in near extremely fine condition.
