Germany, Third Reich. An Order of the German Eagle, Silver Medal of Merit, by the Official Berlin Mint
(Verdienstorden vom Deutschen Adler Silberne Verdienstmedaille). Instituted 1 May 1937. (1937-1945 Issue). Constructed of silver, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon with horizontal pinback, the obverse with a raised Maltese Cross with its quadrants joined by NSDAP-style German national eagles clutching wreathed mobile swastikas, the reverse with an inscription of “DEUTSCHE VERDIENST-MEDAILLE” (“GERMAN MERIT MEDAL”), the edge with a crescent moon indicating German manufacture, a silver content number of “835”, and a maker’s mark of “PR. MÜNZE BERLIN” for the Official Berlin Mint, measuring 38.07 mm in diameter, weighing 23.1 grams (inclusive of ribbon), in near extremely fine condition.
