Germany, Third Reich. A Rare Order of the German Eagle Type I, Silver Medal of Merit with Swords, by Deschler & Sohn
                (Orden vom Deutschen Adler, Silberne Verdienstmedaille mit Schwertern). Instituted 1 May 1937. (1939-1943 issue). Constructed of silver, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon with horizontal pinback, the obverse bearing a raised Maltese Cross, with its quadrants joined by NSDAP-style German national eagles clutching wreathed mobile swastika, the twelve o’clock position bearing crossed swords, the reverse bearing a raised inscription of “DEUTSCHE VERDIENST MEDAILLE”, the edge marked with a silver content number of “900” and with the physical characteristics of manufacture by Deschler & Sohn, München, measuring 38.12 mm (w) x 47.97 mm (h), weighing 27.9 grams (inclusive of ribbon), the sword clasp has slightly bent, in overall near extremely fine condition.
