Germany, Third Reich. An Order of the German Eagle, V Class with Swords, by C.F. Zimmermann
(Verdienstorden vom Deutschen Adler, V. Klasse mit Schwertern). Instituted 1 May 1937. (1943- 1945 issue). Constructed of gilded silver with enamels, consisting of a Maltese Cross with white enameled arms, joined through the quadrants by NSDAP-style German national eagles clutching wreathed mobile swastikas on white enameled backgrounds, the obverse bearing central gilt crossed swords, the twelve o’clock arm featuring a fan suspension connecting to a suspension loop with a period original ribbon, unmarked but with the physical characteristics of of manufacture by C.F. Zimmermann, Pforzheim, measuring 45.18 mm (w) x 50.96 mm (h), weighing 29.0 grams (inclusive of ribbon), with minor flecking of enamels evident, in extremely fine condition.
