A Cased Bronze Grade Cross of Honour of the German Mother by Souval

This is a textbook example of a very well preserved third reich period German 3rd Class “Ehrenkreuz der Deutschen Mutter” with its original case of issue by Richard Souval of Vienna (Wien). A latin cross with concave arms in bronze and well extremely well preserved blue, white, and black enamels (of note is the a slight manufacturing defect in the enamels near the swastika), with sun rays emanating between the arms from the centre applique; on loop for suspension; with its full length period original ribbon; the obverse with a circular applique bearing a static black enameled swastika (Hakenkreuz) within a bronzed ring inscribed “Der Deutschen Mutter” (The German Mother), with all four arms of the cross edged in white enamels with solid blue panels; the reverse dated with the date of implementation “10 Dezember 1938”, bearing the facsimile of the Führer and Reichs-Chancellor; measuring 45.79 mm x 35.76 mm; weighing 13.9 grams (with its ribbon); Accompanied by its boutonniere, consisting of an identical miniature version of the Bronze Grade Mother’s Cross, with a ribbon tied into a bow, and attached to a horizontal pinback. The case of issue is constructed of heavy pressed paper with a dark blue lightly textured faux leather (leatherette) exterior, with the outline of a Mother’s Cross embossed in gold on the outside lid; lined interior lid (maker marked R. Souval Wien VII) with a recessed medal bed; functional spring catch with stud release; intact interior fabric hinge cover; functional exterior hinge; measuring 112 mm x 48 mm. The mother’s cross appears nearly unworn. The boutonniere is fully intact with the ribbon being slightly faded. The case is fully intact, with minor scuffing to the edges from storage. Overall better than extremely fine condition.
