Germany. A Gold Grade Cross of Honour of the German Mother by Deumer
This is a textbook example of a very well preserved third reich period German 1st Class “Ehrenkreuz der Deutschen Mutter” with its original case of issue by Wilhelm Deumer of Lüdenscheid. A latin cross with concave arms in gilded bronze and well preserved blue, white, and black enamels, with sun rays emanating between the arms from the centre applique; on loop for suspension; with its full length period original ribbon; the obverse with a circular applique bearing a static black enameled swastika (Hakenkreuz) within a gilded ring inscribed “Der Deutschen Mutter” (The German Mother), with all four arms of the cross edged in white enamels with solid blue panels; the reverse dated with the date of implementation “10 Dezember 1938”, bearing the facsimile of the Führer and Reichs-Chancellor; measuring 45.19 mm x 34.99 mm; weighing 10.9 grams; Accompanied by its boutonniere, consisting of an identical miniature version of the Gold Grade Mother’s Cross, with a ribbon tied into a bow, and attached to a horizontal pinback. The case of issue is constructed of heavy pressed paper with a dark blue lightly textured faux leather (leatherette) exterior, with the outline of a Mother’s Cross embossed in gold on the outside lid; lined interior lid (maker marked Wilh. Deumer Lüdenscheid) with a recessed medal bed; functional spring catch with stud release; intact interior fabric hinge cover; functional exterior hinge; measuring 108 mm x 48 mm. The mother’s cross appears lightly worn, with mostly only light contact marks on the enamels, but also a light chip in the white enamels on the bottom right side of the arm. The boutonniere is fully intact with the ribbon being slightly faded. The case is fully intact, with minor scuffing to the edges from storage. Overall extremely fine condition.
