Germany, Third Reich. A Pair of Honour Crosses of the German Mother

(Ehrenkreuze der Deutschen Mutter). A pair of Honour Crosses of the German Mother, including a Bronze Grade decoration, constructed of bronze with multi-coloured enamels, on loop for suspension from its period original shortened ribbon, consisting of a Latin Cross with its arms joined through the quadrants by radiant sun rays, the obverse with blue and white enameled arms, with a central white enameled disc bearing a black swastika, circumscribed by a raised inscription of “DER DEUTSCHEN MUTTER” (“TO THE GERMAN MOTHER”), the reverse etched with an institution date of “16. DEZEMBER 1938” and a signature of the Führer, unmarked, measuring 36 mm (w) x 46 mm (h), accompanied by its period original package of issue, constructed of light brown paper stock, the exterior bearing an inscription of “EHRENKREUZ DER DEUTSCHEN MUTTER DRITTE STUFE” and maker’s mark of “LOUIS GOTTLIEB & SÖHNE, OBERSTEIN A. D. NAHE”, measuring 105 mm (w) x 128 mm (h), with loss of finish and tearing evident to the cross and package, respectively, in overall very fine condition, and; a Silver Grade award, constructed of silvered bronze with multi-coloured enamels, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, consisting of a Latin Cross with its arms joined through the quadrants by radiant sun rays, the obverse with blue and white enameled arms, with a central white enameled disc bearing a black swastika, circumscribed by a raised inscription of “DER DEUTSCHEN MUTTER” (“TO THE GERMAN MOTHER”), the reverse etched with an institution date of “16. DEZEMBER 1938” and a signature of the Führer, measuring 36 mm (w) x 46 mm (h), accompanied by its period original presentation case, constructed of card stock with a faux blue leather exterior liner, the lid bearing a gilt depiction of the award, the interior with a white rayon lid liner, maker marked “WILH. DEUMER, LÜDENSCHEID”, with a slotted white felt medal bed, closing with a functional spring catch with exterior stud release, measuring 50 mm (w) x 110 mm (l) x 22 mm (h), with minor loss of finish and material fatigue evident to the decoration and case, respectively, in overall near extremely fine condition.
