Germany, DRK. A German Red Cross Honour Medal
(Medaille des Deutschen Roten Kreuzes). Instituted 6 April 1937 by Duke Carl Eduard of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. (1937-1939 issue). Constructed of silvered bronze with multi-coloured enamels, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, consisting of a Geneva Cross with its arms joined together by a circular ring, the obverse of the cross with red enameled arms and ring with a white enameled finish, bearing a central gilded and black enameled German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, the reverse with a pebbled finish, bearing a raised inscription of “FÜR VERDIENSTE UM DAS DEUTSCHE ROTE KREUZ” (“FOR MERIT TO THE GERMAN RED CROSS”), unmarked, measuring 39.03 mm in diameter, weighing 17.5 grams, with minor flecking of the enamels evident, in extremely fine condition.
