Germany, TeNO. A Rare 1920 Honour Badge, with Case, by Karl Hensler
(Ehrenzeichen der Technischen Nothilfe mit Etui). Constructed of gilded tombak with multi-coloured enamels, the obverse consisting of a central enameled Technische Nothilfe (Technical Emergency Corps/TeNO) insignia in the form of a red enameled square overlaid by an enlarged black mobile swastika, in turn inset with a silvered cogwheel surrounding a hammer defaced by a letter “N”, situated on top of a cogwheel on top of a diamond-shaped starburst, overlaid at the bottom by a banner bearing a date of “1920” with clusters of oak leaves emanating from each side, topped by a TeNo-style German national eagle, the reverse with a block hinge and vertical pinback meeting a round wire catch, stamped with an issue number of “110”, unmarked but demonstrating the characteristics of manufacture by Karl Hensler, Pforzheim, measuring 35.90 mm (w) x 49.35 mm (h), weighing 14.6 grams, accompanied by its original presentation case, constructed of a light wooden frame with a faux black leather exterior liner, the interior with a white rayon lid liner and intact hinge cover, with a slotted with velvet medal bed, closing with a functional metal spring catch with exterior stud release, unmarked, measuring 52 mm (w) x 70mm (h) x 22 mm (h), the enameled centrepiece demonstrating one shallow chip with minor additional flecks, a scarce award in overall extremely fine condition.
