Germany, Third Reich. An Anschluss Medal, with Case
(Die Medaille zur Erinnerung an den 13. März 1938 mit Etui). Constructed of silvered bronze, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon with horizontal pinback, the obverse bearing two raised figures, one of which is clutching a flag and the other a length of broken chain, above a German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, the reverse bearing a central inscription of “13. MÄRZ 1938”, circumscribed by an inscription of “EIN VOLK, EIN REICH, EIN FÜHRER” (“ONE PEOPLE, ONE NATION, ONE LEADER”), unmarked, measuring 32.36 mm in diameter, weighing 16.0 grams (inclusive of ribbon), accompanied by its original presentation case, constructed of a light wooden frame with a faux red leather exterior liner, the lid bearing a partially-intact gilded German national eagle, the interior with a white rayon lid liner and intact hinge cover, with a slotted maroon velvet medal bed, closing with a functional metal spring catch with exterior stud release, unmarked, measuring 50 mm (w) x 100 mm (l) x 20 mm (h), demonstrating moderate loss of finish and material fatigue to the medal and case, respectively, in very fine condition.
