Germany, Third Reich. An Order of the German Eagle, III Class Cross with Case, by Deschler & Sohn

(Verdienstorden vom Deutschen Adler, Kreuz III. Klasse mit Etui). Instituted 1 May 1937. (1943-1945 issue). Constructed of gilded silver with enamels, consisting of a Maltese Cross with white enameled arms, the latter joined through the quadrants by gilded NSDAP-style German national eagles clutching wreathed mobile swastikas on white enameled discs, the twelve o’clock topped by a suspension loop and ring retaining a period original neck ribbon, the six o’clock arm stamped with a silver content number of “900”, otherwise unmarked but demonstrating the characteristics of manufacturer by Deschler & Sohn, Munich, measuring 50.15 mm (w) x 50.66 mm (h), weighing 35.9 grams, accompanied by its original presentation case, constructed of a wooden frame with a faux red leather exterior liner, the lid bearing a gilt NSDAP-style German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, the interior with a padded white satin lid liner and intact hinge cover, bearing an inscription of “ORDEN VOM DEUTSCHEN ADLER VERDIENSTKREUZ 1. KLASSE”, with a depressed black velvet medal bed featuring spaces for both the cross and ribbon, closing with a functional metal snap button, unmarked, measuring 140 mm (w) x 180 mm (l) x 30 mm (h), demonstrating slight flecking and loss of gilt finish to the enamels and base metal of the cross, respectively, with additional minor material fatigue to the exterior of the case, in overall near extremely fine condition.
