Germany, HJ. A Golden Leader’s Sports Badge
(Führer-Sportabzeichen der HJ, B-Stück). Instituted 6 May 1938 by Baldur von Schirach. (1938-1944 issue). Constructed of gilded bronze with a magnetic iron core, the obverse consisting of a circular laurel leaf wreath, overlaid by a Tyr rune, in turn bearing a circular ring with a raised inscription of “FÜR LEISTUNGEN IN DER H.J.” (“FOR MERIT IN THE H.J.”), around a mobile swastika, the reverse with a raised barrel hinge and vertical pinback meeting a flat wire catch, stamped with a large letter “B” indicating a second-issue piece, also marked with a Reichszeugmeisterei (RZM) logo and maker code “M1/101” for Gustav Brehmer, Markneukirchen, measuring 39.79 mm (w) x 50.92 mm (h), weighing 37.2 grams, with only slight loss of finish evident, in extremely fine condition.
