Germany, HJ. A Mine Rescue Merit Badge, by the Prussian State Mint
(Grubenrettungswesen Abzeichen). Constructed of silver, the obverse bearing a raised Maltese Cross with pebbled arms, overlaid by a crossed hammer and pickaxe, above a HJ-style German national eagle, circumscribed by an inscription of “FÜR VERDIENST UM DAS GRUBEN-RETTUNGS-WESEN” (“FOR MERIT IN MINE RESCUE”), the reverse with a horizontal pinback, maker marked “PREUSS. STAATS-MUENZE” for the Prussian State Mint, marked “FEINSILBER” for pure silver construction, measuring 45.05 mm in diameter, weighing 26.3 grams, in extremely fine condition.
