Germany, HJ. A Mint Leader Sports Badge, with Case, by Gustav Brehmer
(Führer-Sportabzeichen der HJ). Constructed of gilded bronze with enamel, the obverse consisting of a circular laurel leaf wreath surrounding a black enameled disc, overlaid by a Tyr rune, in turn bearing a mobile swastika set within a ring bearing a raised inscription of “FÜR LEISTUNGEN IN DER H.J.” (“FOR MERIT IN THE H.J.”), the reverse with a raised barrel hinge and flattened vertical pinback meeting a flat wire catch, stamped with a mark of “B” indicating a replacement piece, also marked with a Reichszeugmeisterei (RZM) logo and maker code “M1/101” for Gustav Brehmer, Markneukirchen, measuring 39.66 mm (w) x 50.96 mm (h), weighing 38.0 grams, accompanied by its period original presentation case, constructed of two pieces of card stock, the lid bearing an inscription of “HJ.-FÜHRER-LEISTUNGS-ABZEICHEN GROß VERGOLDET”, the interior retaining an original fitted insert, measuring 60 mm (w) x 70 mm (l) x 18 mm (h), with minor material fatigue visible to the case, a rare complete set in extremely fine condition.
