Germany, DRK. A German Red Cross Medal, with Case, by Gebrüder Godet & Co.
(Medaille des Deutschen Rotes Kreuzes mit Etui). Instituted 6 April 1937 by Duke Carl Eduard of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. (1937-1939 issue). Constructed of silvered bronze with multi-coloured enamels, on loop for suspension from its period original bow tie ribbon with horizontal pinback, consisting of a Geneva Cross, the obverse with red enameled arms joined together by a white enameled ring, overlaid by a central DRK-style black enameled German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, the reverse pebbled, with an inscription of “FÜR VERDIENSTE UM DAS DEUTSCHE ROTE KREUZ” (“FOR MERIT IN THE GERMAN RED CROSS”), unmarked, measuring 38.26 mm in diameter, weighing 21.9 grams (inclusive of ribbon), accompanied by its period original presentation case, constructed of heavy card stock with a faux purple leather exterior, the interior with a padded white satin lid liner, with a depressed blue felt medal bed, opening with a functional metal hinge, the lid liner maker marked “GODET, BERLIN”, measuring 62 mm (w) x 84 mm (l) x 20 mm (h), some flecking evident to the enamels of the medal along with material fatigue of the case, in overall near extremely fine condition.
