A Prince Alfons Medal & Hindenburg Cross Group to Karl Grotz
A medal grouping of a Commemorative Prince Alfons Medal and a Honour Cross of the World War 1914/18 (Hindenburg Cross), with their respective award certificates. The first certificate states that Postanwärter (Postal Service Constabulary) Karl Grotz from Schwarzenbach am Wald (northern Bavaria) is being awarded the Hindenburg Cross. It was awarded in Naila on March 30th, 1935, and is signed by a worker in the district department (possibly Hofmann), measuring 211 mm x 149 mm, with two two punched holes, folding creases, and minor tears. The Hindenburg Cross constructed of bronzed metal (magnetic); on loop for suspension; maker marked “B 10”; on its period original ribbon, stitched together using dark blue threads; measuring 37.58 mm x 37.42 mm; weighing 14.5 grams. The second certificate states that Karl Grotz from Bamberg (Franconia) is being awarded the Prinz Alfons Erinnerungszeichen (Prince Alfons Commemorative Medal). It was awarded on December 8th, 1928, and carries the facsimile of retired Lieutenant Leo Brandt, the personal adjutant of Prince Alfons, measuring 206 mm x 161 mm, with two two punched holes, folding creases, and minor tears. The commemorative medal in silvered bronze; affixed to its period-original ribbon; horizontal pinback; maker marked “M. Heinloth” on the reverse; measuring 47 mm x 42 mm; weighing 18.7 grams; overall near extremely fine condition.
