Constructed of silvered and gilded bronze with enamels, the obverse consisting of an elongated eight-pointed radiant star, the obverse bearing a central oval medallion overlaid by a raised German soldier in Stahlhelm and full field gear, surrounded by a pebbled gilt border, in turn forming the centrepiece of a white enameled Cross Pattée with crossed swords piercing the centrepiece, the reverse with two visible rivets securing the obverse applique in place, etched with an inscription of “DEUTSCHES FELD-EHRENZEICHEN” (“GERMAN FIELD HONOUR BADGE”), with a block hinge and vertical pinback meeting a round wire catch, marked “HAMBURG 11”, measuring 52.26 mm (w) x 63.95 mm (h), weighing 32.0 grams, with minor flecking and loss of finish visible to the enamels and base metal, respectively, in near extremely fine condition.
