Germany, Weimar Republic. A Prussian Honour Cross I Class for 1914-1918
(Preußisches Ehrenkreuz I. Klasse für 1914-1918). Constructed of gilded and silver bronze with multi-coloured enamels, consisting of a Maltese Cross with crossed swords piercing the centrepiece, the obverse with black enameled arms, overlaid by a central enameled medallion featuring a white enameled disc overlaid by a Hohenzollern-style imperial eagle, within a ring of black enamel bearing a gilt inscription of “PREUSSENS TAPFEREN KRIEGERN” (“PRUSSIA’S BRAVE WARRIORS”), in turn set within a circular oak leaf wreath topped by a crown, the reverse with a barrel hinge and tapering vertical pinback meeting a flat wire catch, unmarked, measuring 45.39 mm (w) x 45.39 mm (h), weighing 28.1 grams, in extremely fine condition.
