Germany, Weimar Republic. A 1924 Zeppelin Trans-Atlantic Flight Commemorative Silver Medallion, by Karl Goetz
(Ozean Fahrt Gedenkmünze in Silber). Constructed of silver, the obverse bearing a raised globe charting the Zeppelin’s route from Germany to the United States, topped by an eagle, flanked by a Grecian figure and Owl of Athena, circumscribed by an inscription of “DEUTSCHE TATKRAFT” (“GERMAN SPIRIT”) and “IN 80 STUNDEN” (“IN 80 HOURS”), the reverse bearing a central raised depiction of a Zeppelin above Columbus-style Spanish vessel, within dates “1924” and “1492”, circumscribed by an inscription of “ERINNERUNG AB Z R III OZEAN FAHRT”, the obverse designer/maker marked “K. GOETZ” for the firm of Karl Goetz, measuring 33.30 mm in diameter, weighing 17.9 grams, in extremely fine condition.
